Professional support for accompanying partners in New York City

Sojourn Talent supports the professionals who relocate in support of a partner's international posting — and the missions, employers, and funders working to change what happens to their careers.

The Gap We're Closing

Each year, thousands of experienced professionals relocate to New York in support of a partner's diplomatic, UN, or corporate posting. Most arrive with advanced degrees, deep expertise, and strong careers — but no local network, no employer visibility, and nowhere to start.

The posting organisation focuses on the employee. The partner is largely left to figure it out alone.

The result: careers stall, professional identities erode, and families feel the strain. Sojourn Talent was built to change that.

What We Offer

A professional community

Connect with peers who understand what this transition feels like. The Sojourn Talent community is where accompanying partners share insights and professional resources, exchange advice on navigating New York — schools, neighbourhoods, local services — post and find job opportunities, and stay connected to a professional world that gets it. Join our Circle community for free.

A 10-week career program

Career coaching, peer cohorts, pathway sessions, and employer networking — designed to help accompanying partners clarify priorities, build momentum, and leave with a plan. Open to all: diplomatic, UN, corporate, and independent. Cohorts run seasonally in New York City.

Missions and employers may co-fund participation but independent participants are also welcome

WHO WE WORK WITH
Four Audiences, One Platform

Accompanying Partners

You've built a career. A posting shouldn't mean losing it. Whether you're looking for employment, consulting work, professional development, or simply to stay connected to your field — there's a structured path forward, and a community that gets it.

Employers Seeking International Talent

New York's diplomatic and international community represents an exceptional — and largely untapped — talent pool. Accompanying partners bring advanced qualifications, multilingual skills, cross-cultural expertise, and international experience that is rarely found in one place. We connect you with qualified professionals ready to contribute.

Organisations Posting Staff Internationally

Whether you're a foreign ministry, diplomatic mission, multilateral organisation, or private sector company, your accompanying partners need support too. Embedding Sojourn Talent in your relocation package reduces family strain, improves assignment stability, and signals genuine commitment to dual-career families. We work with employers to co-fund programme access and report on outcomes.

Funders and Foundations

Career disruption for accompanying partners is a systemic gender equity issue — and a measurable workforce problem. Sojourn Talent offers a scalable, evidence-based model with a clear theory of change. We are actively seeking foundation partners to expand programme access.

Business Meeting

The numbers make the case.

  • A failed international posting costs an organisation $500,000–$1,000,000 or more. Family strain is a leading cause.

  • Accompanying partners are disproportionately women — highly qualified professionals sidelined not by choice but by circumstance.

  • Career disruption compounds across postings. Without intervention, the professional gap widens with every move.

  • Structured early support changes outcomes — for the partner, the family, and the assignment.

  • New York City hosts the largest diplomatic community in the world. This talent pool is largely invisible to local employers.

Leadership

Sojourn Talent was founded by a senior international policy and operations executive with deep experience in global negotiations, workforce strategy, and international systems — combined with firsthand experience navigating relocation as an accompanying partner.

The platform is developed and delivered in collaboration with an ICF-certified career coach with 15 years of experience in the UN system.
